Frequently Asked Questions About Autism Parent Coaching

Straight answers for parents raising autistic teens, and for autistic adults.

What is life coaching, and how is it different from therapy?

Life coaching is practical and forward looking. It helps parents build strategies for everyday life: meltdowns, school, routines, and burnout. Therapy focuses on mental health diagnosis and treatment. Amanda is a life coach, not a therapist, and coaching does not replace therapy.

Who is coaching for, parents or teens?

Coaching is for parents, and for autistic adults booking for themselves. Parent sessions focus on what parents can do at home, including how to support teens with life skills, routines, school, boundaries, and independence. Your teen does not need to participate in a parent session. A teen may sit in on a parent's session.

What happens in a coaching session?

You bring a real situation, like a meltdown, a school email, or a morning that fell apart. Amanda helps you understand what is underneath it, and every session ends with a structured action plan so you leave knowing what to try next.

Can coaching help with meltdowns?

Yes. Coaching covers how to understand triggers, navigate meltdowns, de-escalate in the moment, arrange the environment, build coping skills, and recover afterward.

Can coaching help with school struggles?

Yes. Coaching covers routines, mornings, homework, communication with school, and building toward independence, so school battles stop running the household.

My teen will not talk to anyone. Can coaching still help?

Yes. Coaching is for parents, so your teen does not need to participate. You learn strategies you can use at home.

How do I book a session?

Book through the booking calendar on the Book a Session page. Choose a 30 minute session or a 1 hour session, or start with the 4 Weeks to Calmer Evenings package.

How much does coaching cost?

Single sessions are $35 for 30 minutes and $65 for 1 hour. The 4 Weeks to Calmer Evenings package is $120 for four 30 minute sessions, $225 for four 1 hour sessions.

How many sessions will I need?

Some parents see a shift in a few sessions. The 4 Weeks to Calmer Evenings package covers four weekly sessions. After that, you can book as little or as often as you like.

Is this medical or therapeutic advice?

No. Amanda is a life coach, not a therapist, and coaching is not medical or therapeutic advice. Coaching focuses on practical strategies for everyday family life.

Who is coaching not for?

Coaching is not for families in crisis, and it is not therapy, diagnosis, or medical care. If your family is in crisis, contact emergency services or a licensed professional right away. Coaching fits families who want practical strategies for everyday life.

What is the cancellation and reschedule policy?

You can cancel or reschedule up to 24 hours before your session at no charge. Sessions cancelled later, or missed, count as used.

Who books, and does a guardian need to be present for teen clients?

The client is always the adult. Sessions are for parents and caregivers, and for autistic adults booking for themselves. There is no direct one to one work with minors as clients, and a teen does not need to be present. Amanda does not mind if a teen sits in on a parent's session.

Can autistic adults book coaching for themselves?

Yes. Coaching for autistic adults covers life skills, work, independence, and transitions, at your pace. Sessions are online and one to one.
